The Bengal Files Weak Opening and a Steady Fall

“The Bengal Files” was released on September 5, 2025. It had a weak start on its opening day, earning just ₹1.75 crore. The first weekend was a little better, with collections picking up to ₹2.25 crore on Saturday and ₹2.75 crore on Sunday.
This weekend’s growth gave some hope for the film. However, the collections started to fall from the first Monday. The movie earned ₹1.15 crore on Monday, and the numbers continued to go down during the week. The first week’s total collection was ₹11.25 crore.

Second Week Struggles
The second week was even more difficult for “The Bengal Files.” The film’s collections dropped sharply. On its second Friday, the film collected only ₹0.60 crore.
The second weekend saw a slight jump, with the film earning ₹1.15 crore on Saturday and ₹1.10 crore on Sunday. But the collections went down again on the weekdays.
The film’s total at the end of the second week was ₹15.72 crore. This was a clear sign that the film was struggling to attract an audience.
Third Weekend Disaster
The third weekend was a disaster for the movie. The film is now in its third week, and its collections are very low. The movie earned only ₹0.3 crore on its 17th day.
This is a very small number and shows that the film is now on its last legs at the box office. The total collection of ₹16.48 crore is very low for a film that had a lot of hype. The film’s makers had hoped for a much better result.
Reasons for the Film’s Failure
There are many reasons for the poor performance of “The Bengal Files.” The main reason is the negative reviews from critics and the audience. The film was criticized for its story and its portrayal of a historical event. The film’s director, Vivek Agnihotri, had a big hit with “The Kashmir Files,” but this film has not been able to repeat that success.
Another big problem for “The Bengal Files” was the competition. The film was released at the same time as other movies, like “Baaghi 4” and “The Conjuring: Last Rites.” These films have done much better at the box office. “The Conjuring: Last Rites” has done very well, earning over ₹67 crore in its first week.
A big reason for the film’s failure is also the fact that it was not released in West Bengal. The film is about events that happened in Bengal, but the film was not allowed to be shown in theatres there.
This meant that the film lost a huge audience. The film was also not as popular as “The Kashmir Files.” That film was a cultural and commercial phenomenon, but “The Bengal Files” has not been able to create the same impact.
The film’s low collection is a big loss for the producers and everyone involved. It shows that even a famous director’s name is not enough to make a film a hit. A good story and strong marketing are also very important. “The Bengal Files” had a lot of promise, but it failed to deliver.
