From Pawan Kalyan’s Blockbuster Opening to a Slowdown
They Call Him OG is a high-budget gangster action thriller. It was directed by Sujeeth. The film had one of the biggest openings of the year for any Telugu film.
The film’s day one collection was a staggering Rs 63.75 Crore. Including the paid previews, the first day’s total was even higher. This clearly showed the massive star power of Pawan Kalyan, often called the ‘Power Star’ by his fans.
The first weekend was also very strong. The film easily crossed the Rs 150 Crore mark in India within the first six days. This rapid success was a big win for the makers. The total collection is now close to the Rs 175 Crore mark in India. The film has crossed the Rs 250 Crore mark worldwide.
The Impact of New Competition on OG Collection
The sharp drop in the collection on Day 10 is mainly because of new film releases. The biggest competition comes from the Kannada film Kantara: Chapter 1. This film was released recently and has become a huge hit everywhere. Its strong performance has taken away a large number of screens and audience from OG.
Another new film, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, has also been released and is fighting for the audience. The mixed reviews for OG after its release are also hurting its long-term run. The strong positive word-of-mouth for Kantara: Chapter 1 has created a very tough situation for OG.

However, a big dip in collections is often common after a huge opening weekend. The single-digit collection on Day 10 indicates that the film is mostly depending on its core fan base now. The film’s Telugu version still brings in the most money. The Hindi and Tamil versions have not seen similar success.
The director and star have already announced plans for both a prequel and a sequel to the film. This shows their confidence in the franchise. But for now, They Call Him OG will need to show great strength to cross the next big milestone of Rs 200 Crore (net India collection) in this strong competition. Its run in the next few days will be very important.
