New Delhi | October 8, 2025: Fans of the popular show Game of Thrones have something big to look forward to. HBO has officially announced the release window for its new spin-off series. The show, titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will premiere in early January 2026 on the Max streaming platform. For Indian viewers, the series will be available on JioCinema or JioHotstar.
The official news was shared with a new poster. The tagline on the poster read, “A Tall Tale That Became Legend.” The message from the creators promised something exciting. They wrote: “This Winter, Spring is Coming.”
What is the New Story of Game of Thrones About?
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a prequel to Game of Thrones. The story is set around a century before the events of the original series. It is also set roughly 100 years after the events shown in the first spin-off, House of the Dragon.
The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s popular novellas called Tales of Dunk and Egg. The first season will adapt the first novella, The Hedge Knight.
The show follows the adventures of two unlikely heroes. One is a young, brave, but very simple knight. His name is Ser Duncan the Tall, or simply “Dunk.” The other is his small squire, Egg. This squire is actually Aegon Targaryen, a future King of Westeros.
The Main Cast and Characters of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
The lead role of Ser Duncan the Tall will be played by actor Peter Claffey. The role of his young squire, Egg, will be portrayed by Dexter Sol Ansell.
The first season will have six episodes. Their journey will take them through tournaments and royal places. They will meet powerful members of the Targaryen family. These characters include Prince Baelor “Breakspear” Targaryen and Prince Maekar Targaryen.

A Different Look at Westeros
This new series offers a change in tone from its predecessors. Showrunner Ira Parker said the show will be more “grounded.” It will focus more on the common people and the daily life of a wandering knight.
Do not expect to see many dragons. The Targaryen line is in power, but the memory of the last dragon is starting to fade. The Targaryens are at a weaker point in their reign. The show will explore a world without the powerful magic and huge battles of the earlier series. It will be more like a gritty, medieval story with a touch of hope.
Production and Future Plans
The first season has already finished filming. It is currently in the post-production stage. HBO is very confident about the series. They are already planning for a multi-season arc. The second and third seasons are expected to be filmed back-to-back. The goal is to adapt all three of George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas.
Originally, the show was expected to premiere in late 2025. But it was later pushed to early 2026. This new January 2026 release date has made fans very excited. They are ready to see more of the rich and complex world of Westeros. This show will be the next major fantasy drama from HBO.
