the box office is seeing a tough fight. Bollywood films like Baaghi 4 and The Bengal Files have completed their first week. But they are facing strong competition
Mumbai: As of today, Friday, September 12, 2025, the box office is seeing a tough fight. Bollywood films like Baaghi 4 and The Bengal Files have completed their first week. But they are facing strong competition. This competition is coming from a Hollywood horror film and a popular South Indian movie.
The numbers from the first week show a clear trend: Indian audiences are choosing new genres and new stories over old formulas.
The box office this week has been a mixed bag for Bollywood. Tiger Shroffโs action film, Baaghi 4, and Vivek Agnihotriโs political drama, The Bengal Files, were the two big Hindi releases. Both films had a lot of buzz before they came out. But their first-week numbers tell a different story.

The Clash of the Titans: Baaghi 4 vs. The Bengal Files
Baaghi 4 had a better start than The Bengal Files. It collected a decent Rs 12 crore on its opening day. This was a good number. But the collections went down on Saturday and Sunday.
The film earned a total of around Rs 31.25 crore over its first weekend. This was less than what was expected from a big franchise like Baaghi. The weekday collections were even more disappointing.
The filmโs earnings dropped sharply to just a few crores each day. By the end of its first week, Baaghi 4 had a total of about Rs 42.55 crore.

On the other hand, The Bengal Files had a slow start. It collected only Rs 1.75 crore on its first day. The film saw a small jump over the weekend. It earned around Rs 6.75 crore in its first three days.
Like Baaghi 4, this film also saw a major drop in collections on weekdays. Its first-week total is around Rs 11.25 crore.
The Surprise Winners: Hollywood and South Indian Cinema
While Bollywood movies struggled, two other films did very well. The Hollywood horror movie, The Conjuring: Final Rites, and the Tamil action film, Madharasi, have been doing great business.

The Conjuring: Final Rites had a fantastic first week. It has already crossed the Rs 65 crore mark in just seven days. This shows that Indian audiences are very open to watching international films. The horror genre has a big fan base in India, and this film has shown it again.
Another film that has performed very well is the Tamil movie Madharasi, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Vidyut Jammwal. The film had a strong opening, earning Rs 13.65 crore on its first day. Its first-week collection is a strong Rs 49 crore. This is a great number, showing the growing power of South Indian films in different parts of India. The film has been praised for its action scenes. It is expected to cross the Rs 50 crore mark very soon.
What Does This Mean for the Box Office?
The box office trends this week are a clear signal to filmmakers. Today, Audiences want to watch good content, no matter the language or where the film comes from.
For Bollywood Directors and Actors, this is a wake-up call. The old model of relying on a starโs name or a famous franchise is not working anymore. Both Baaghi 4 and The Bengal Files had big names attached to them. But they could not bring in the kind of numbers that were expected.
