Chennai, October 14, 2025: The box office journey of the movie Idli Kadai has seen a very slow pace in its second week. The film, directed by and starring Dhanush, has shown a steep drop in collections.

Trade reports from today, which marks the 14th day of its release, suggest that the film collected only Rs 0.41 crore (*Early Data) net collection in India. This small collection clearly shows that the film is struggling to attract viewers in its third week.

Idli Kadai Box Office Collection
Idli Kadai was released on September 25, 2025. It is Dhanush’s directorial venture. The film had opened to a good start. On Day 1, the film had earned a decent Rs 11 crore net in India across all languages.
The first weekend was also okay. It finished the extended opening weekend with a total net collection of around Rs 38.6 crore. This gave hope to the film’s makers.

The Steep Decline in Week Two
The second week has been very tough for Idli Kadai. The daily numbers have continuously been low. The fall from the opening day’s Rs 11 crore to the 14th day’s Rs 0.41 crore is a huge drop. This suggests that the film has almost run its course in theatres. It is struggling to retain shows in many cinema halls.
According to trade analysts, the film’s total collection across India (net) stands at around Rs 48 to 49 crore after two weeks. For a film starring a big star like Dhanush and directed by him, this number is disappointing. The film was expected to cross the Rs 50 crore mark comfortably in its first week itself.
Focus on the Core Story
Idli Kadai is a family drama. It centers on the character Murugan, played by Dhanush. Murugan leaves his village and his father’s humble idli shop. He chases a big career in the hotel industry abroad. The story is about how he returns to his roots. He tries to save his father’s traditional business and legacy. The film also features a strong supporting cast, including Nithya Menen, Arun Vijay, Shalini Pandey, Sathyaraj, and Raj Kiran.
The movie tries to talk about simple living, tradition, and the love for one’s village.
The Tamil version is still the highest-grossing part of the film, thanks to Dhanush’s huge fan base in Tamil Nadu. But the dubbed Telugu version has also performed very poorly.
As the film enters its third week, the daily collection is likely to drop even more. Most theatre owners will reduce the number of shows. The team behind Idli Kadai must be hoping for a better performance when the film releases on an OTT platform. But for now, the theatrical run is a clear disappointment for the popular actor and director Dhanush.
