This was during the Independence Day holiday weekend. For the last 20 days, fans and trade experts have been watching their day-by-day collections very closely. While both films had a great start, their paths have been very different.
Rajinikanth’s Coolie Collection
Rajinikanth’s “Coolie” started with a bang. It made a huge Rs 65 crore on its first day. This was a massive number and a big start for a Tamil movie. The first weekend was also very strong.
The film made Rs 54.75 crore on Friday, Rs 39.5 crore on Saturday, and Rs 35.25 crore on Sunday. This brought the first week’s total to Rs 229.65 crore. This gave “Coolie” a big lead over its rival. The film’s strong start was because of Rajinikanth’s huge fan following and a lot of buzz.
Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR’s War 2 Collection
“War 2,” starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, also had a good opening. It made Rs 52.50 crore on Day 1. Its first weekend was also strong, with Rs 58.85 crore on Friday and Rs 34.25 crore on Saturday.
The first week’s total was Rs 204.25 crore. This was a good number, but it was still behind “Coolie.” “War 2” was part of a bigger spy universe. But it did not get the same kind of love from the audience as “Coolie.”

After the first week, both films saw their collections drop. This is a normal thing for movies after a holiday weekend. But the drop was very big for both films.
In its second week, “Coolie” made only Rs 41.85 crore. This was a big fall from its first week’s number. “War 2” also saw a big drop. It collected just Rs 27 crore in its second week.
As of its 18th day, “Coolie” had a total collection of around Rs 279 crore. It even saw a small jump in numbers during its third weekend, proving that Rajinikanth’s power is still strong. On the other hand, “War 2” struggled more. On its 19th day, it collected only around Rs 0.60 crore. Its total collection is now at about Rs 235.1 crore.
Now, the big question is about the final numbers. Experts believe “Coolie” might struggle to cross the Rs 300 crore mark. And “War 2” will likely end its run below Rs 250 crore.

This is a bit disappointing for both films, which were made on very big budgets. “Coolie” reportedly cost Rs 350 crore, while “War 2” cost Rs 400 crore. So, both movies will have a tough time getting a “hit” verdict from just their India collections.
In this battle, “Coolie” is the clear winner in India. It is leading with a big margin over “War 2.” The Rajinikanth starrer has shown that a superstar’s power and fan following are still very important.
While “War 2” had a huge star cast and was part of a big franchise, it could not beat the magic of “Thalaivar” Rajinikanth.
