August 21, 2025 – The big clash at the box office is over. Rajinikanth’s Coolie and Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR’s War 2 have finished their first week in theaters. Both films came out on August 14, a great time with the Independence Day holiday. Now, the final numbers are in, and it’s clear who is the winner of this race.

Rajinikanth’s Coolie has emerged as the clear leader. The film, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, had a huge opening. It started with a bang, earning Rs 65 crore on its first day. This was much higher than the opening of War 2, which made Rs 52 crore.

In its first week, Coolie has collected a total of Rs 223.5 crore in India. This is a very good number. It means the film has been a big success for Rajinikanth and the makers. The movie crossed the Rs 200 crore mark on its first Monday. Even with some weekday drops in collections, it kept a strong hold. The film’s total worldwide collection is even bigger, crossing Rs 400 crore in the first week.

On the other side, War 2 is still trying to reach a big milestone. The film, which is part of the YRF Spy Universe, has made Rs 199.25 crore in its first seven days. It is just short of the Rs 200 crore mark. The movie had a good start, but its collections fell quickly after the first weekend. On Day 7, it made only Rs 5.75 crore. This is less than what Coolie earned on the same day, which was Rs 7.5 crore.

What Happened?
Many people think Rajinikanth’s huge fan base helped Coolie a lot. The film also has other big actors like Nagarjuna and Aamir Khan in special roles. This added to the hype. The music by Anirudh Ravichander was also a big hit. Even though some reviews for Coolie were mixed, the audience loved the action and Rajinikanth’s style.
For War 2, despite having big stars like Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, the film could not keep up the pace. The movie’s story and direction by Ayan Mukerji received mixed reviews. Some viewers felt the movie lost its charm after the first few days.
