McEWEN, TN – Saturday, October 11, 2025 – Authorities have confirmed a terrible update following a huge explosion at an explosives plant in rural Tennessee. Officials now say there are no survivors from the blast that happened on Friday morning. The explosion completely destroyed a building at the Accurate Energetic Systems (AES) facility. This factory makes powerful explosives for the military.
Devastation and Recovery Efforts
The explosion happened around 7:45 a.m. local time on Friday. The force of the blast was immense. It shook houses and rattled windows in towns that were miles away. Residents thought it was an earthquake or a meteor hitting the ground.
The Humphreys County Sheriff, Chris Davis, described the scene as “devastating.” He said there was “nothing to describe” of the main building—it’s gone. The explosion left a huge field of smoldering debris and twisted metal. Burned-out cars were scattered around the site.
The initial count of missing workers was 19. That number was later changed to 18 people who were unaccounted for. Officials sadly believe all of those people were inside the building at the time of the explosion.

This accident happened in a heavily wooded area near the small town of Bucksnort, about 60 miles southwest of Nashville. The AES plant is a key employer in this rural community. The loss of life is being felt deeply by everyone. Sheriff Davis himself said he knows families connected to the tragedy.
The community gathered for a vigil on Friday night. People held candles, prayed, and sang together. They offered support for the families anxiously waiting for news. This close-knit community faces a long period of grieving and recovery.
The plant has a history of accidents. An explosion at the same complex in 2014 killed one person and injured three others. The facility has also faced fines in the past for safety violations. These past events are now being looked at again as part of the current investigation. As the recovery continues, the focus remains on finding the victims and offering support to their heartbroken families.
