A Slow and Steady Decline

“The Bengal Files” was released on September 5, 2025. It had a moderate start at the box office. The first day collection was around ₹1.75 crore. This was much lower than the first-day collection of “The Kashmir Files.” However, the film showed some growth over its first weekend. It earned ₹2.25 crore on Saturday and ₹2.75 crore on Sunday. This brought the first weekend total to a respectable ₹6.75 crore.

The film’s performance in the first week was decent. It managed to collect a total of ₹11.25 crore. But after the first week, the numbers started to drop. On its second Friday, the collection fell to just ₹0.60 crore. The second weekend was also not very strong, with collections of ₹1.15 crore on Saturday and ₹1.10 crore on Sunday. This brought the second weekend total to about ₹2.90 crore.

The Weekday Struggle

The real problem for the film began on weekdays. The film’s collections dropped sharply from its weekend numbers. On the second Monday (Day 11), it collected only ₹0.40 crore. On the third Monday (Day 18), the numbers have fallen even more to just ₹0.09 crore. This is a huge drop. It shows that the film is losing its audience very fast. The film is struggling to get people to the cinema halls.

Reasons for the Low Collections

There are several reasons why “The Bengal Files” is not doing well at the box office.

  • Controversy and Ban
  • High Expectations
  • Stiff Competition
  • Mixed Reviews

What Happens Next?

Looking at the current trend, “The Bengal Files” is unlikely to recover its costs from the theatrical run alone. The film is expected to have a short life in cinemas. The makers will now be looking at revenue from other sources like OTT (Over-The-Top) platforms and satellite rights.
