Yami Gautam’s Legal Drama ‘Haq’ Box Office Day 1 Collection Starts Below Expectations
⚖️ ‘Haq’ Box Office Day 1 Report: Yami Gautam’s Legal Drama Starts Slow, Banking on Weekend Word-of-Mouth!
New Delhi, Saturday, November 8, 2025: The much-awaited courtroom drama, ‘Haq,’ hit the theatres yesterday, Friday, November 7, 2025.
This Hindi film stars Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi in lead roles. The film has received very strong reviews from critics. Everyone is praising the powerful subject and the lead actors’ performances. But the box office collection on Day 1 has been modest.
The film has taken a slow start at the ticket window across India.

Haq First Day Numbers: Below Expectations
‘Haq’ is a serious, issue-based film. It is inspired by the landmark 1985 Shah Bano Begum case. This is a very important story about women’s rights and justice. Given the positive reviews, the trade experts expected a better opening.
- According to industry reports, Haq collected around ₹1.72 Crore net on its opening day. Some other reports place the figure slightly lower at ₹1.36 Crore net.
- This is a low number for a movie with well-known faces like Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi. It confirms that the film did not get a big mass opening.
- The overall Hindi occupancy for Friday was also low, around 9.97%.
For comparison, Yami Gautam’s last film, Article 370, had a much bigger opening. That film collected around ₹5.9 Crore on Day 1. The opening of ‘Haq’ is much lower. This proves that films based on social issues sometimes need time to attract a bigger crowd.

Haq Ticketing and Geography: The Metro Story
Let’s look at how the audience showed up across different cities in India. The numbers show a clear pattern.
- Slow Mornings, Better Nights: Like many films that rely on good reviews, ‘Haq’ had a very slow start in the morning shows, with occupancy around 5.66%. The afternoon shows were slightly better. However, the Night Shows saw a good jump. The occupancy for night shows went up to 16.50%. This suggests that good public opinion started spreading only by late afternoon.
- Mumbai and NCR are Slow: The biggest film markets, Mumbai and the National Capital Region (NCR – Delhi/UP), delivered slow numbers. Mumbai had about 12.75% occupancy across 300 shows. Delhi-NCR was even lower at 8.25% occupancy across 497 shows.
- Bengaluru’s Surprise: The city of Bengaluru showed the best occupancy at 17.25%. The night shows here were excellent, hitting 32% occupancy. This shows that the urban, educated audience is keen to watch the film.
- Southern Support: Hyderabad also performed decently with 12.00% occupancy in 105 shows.
The film did not manage to pull large numbers in the major Northern cities. This weak Day 1 show means the film will heavily rely on the weekend jump.
The Competition: A Head-to-Head Fight
‘Haq’ was not the only new Hindi release. It faced a direct clash with ‘Jatadhara,’ a supernatural thriller.
- Jatadhara, which stars Sonakshi Sinha and Sudheer Babu, also opened poorly. That film collected around ₹90 Lakhs on its opening day.
- ‘Haq’ has managed to stay ahead of Jatadhara in the box office race. This is a small win for the makers of ‘Haq’.
Also, other films that were released in previous weeks are still running. But the main issue for ‘Haq’ is the lack of mass appeal on the first day. The audience knew this was a serious courtroom drama. It is not an action-comedy or a big-budget visual spectacle.

Word-of-Mouth is King
The reviews for ‘Haq’ are almost universally positive. Critics and early audiences have praised the script and the director, Suparn S Varma. Yami Gautam’s acting as Shazia Bano is being called “powerful” and “convincing.”
The film has a strong message. It is about a woman’s fight for her dignity. This kind of content can catch up quickly. If the positive reviews continue to spread today, on Saturday, and tomorrow, on Sunday, the film can see a major increase in footfalls. A good weekend jump is crucial for ‘Haq’ to achieve a hit status. The box office story is not over yet.
