Is Akshay Kumar finally returning to his Hera Pheri peak with Bhooth Bangla? Or Not?
Bhooth Bangla Trailer Reactions: Fans Spot Hera Pheri References and Bhagam Bhag Callbacks in Akshay Kumar’s New Film
MUMBAI — Stop everything you are doing because the OG king of comedy is finally back in the building! If you have been scrolling through social media today, you already know that the Bhooth Bangla trailer just dropped, and let me tell you, it is not just a trailer; it is a giant, warm hug from the 2000s.

After 14 long years of waiting, the legendary duo of Akshay Kumar and director Priyadarshan has reunited, and the internet is absolutely losing its mind over the sheer nostalgia packed into these three minutes.
We are talking about the same team that gave us Hera Pheri, Bhagam Bhag, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa.
For a generation that grew up on memes of Akshay’s iconic laugh and Rajpal Yadav’s confused expressions, this feels like a homecoming.

The trailer introduces us to Arjun Acharya, played by Akshay, a property dealer returning from London to the fictional town of Mangalpur. He has his sights set on a massive, creepy haveli, but there is a catch: the town is haunted by a demon called Vadhusur, who apparently has a major problem with anyone getting married in that house.
As per the official trailer reveal and early fan reactions, the highlight of this entire sneak peek is not the horror, but the classic slapstick comedy that we have all been missing.
Remember those scenes where characters would just hit each other’s heads in frustration or the perfectly timed physical gags from Hera Pheri?

Priyadarshan has brought that exact energy back. In one specific scene, the way Akshay reacts to the chaos around him feels like we have traveled back in time to 2006.
The real question everyone is asking right now is: can this old-school comedy survive in the age of high-concept cinema? Is it enough to just recycle the vibes of the past, or does Bhooth Bangla have something genuinely fresh to offer beneath the layers of nostalgia?

The evidence is all over the screen. The trailer is littered with legendary callbacks that only true fans will catch.
We heard the iconic Behen darr gai vibe from Bhagam Bhag and even a sneaky reference to the mandir ka ghanta line from Hungama. The cast is basically a who’s who of comedy royalty, featuring Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav (who plays a character named Sunder), and even the legendary Asrani.
Adding a layer of modern mystery is the brilliant Tabu, along with Wamiqa Gabbi and Mithila Palkar, making this one of the most balanced ensembles we have seen in years.

As confirmed by the production team at Balaji Motion Pictures, the film was originally slated for an April 10 release, but it has now shifted to April 17, 2026, to give Dhurandhar 2 some breathing room.
However, for those who cannot wait, paid previews will start as early as 9 pm on April 16.
If the trailer is any indication, we are looking at a massive opening because the audience is clearly hungry for that unfiltered, chaotic comedy that only Priyadarshan can deliver.
Personally, I think this is exactly what the doctor ordered for Akshay Kumar’s box office run.
He looks comfortable, he looks funny, and most importantly, he looks like he is actually having fun again.

Whether the horror works or not, the meme-worthy chemistry between the trio of Akshay, Paresh, and Rajpal is already a winner.
