Mumbai: In a major revelation, director Aryan Khan has admitted that his Netflix series, The Ba*ds of Bollywood, has scenes that are inspired by real events from the film industry. The series has become a massive hit. It is now one of the most talked-about shows of 2025. It reached the number one spot on Netflix India after its release on September 18, 2025.
The seven-episode show is a sharp satire. It looks at the dark side of Bollywood. It shows things like the debate between “insiders” and “outsiders.” It also touches upon fake friendships and media trials. Since its release, many viewers have felt that the show is very close to real life. Now, the young filmmaker has confirmed this.
In a recent interview, Aryan Khan spoke about the show’s theme of nepotism and ambition. He clearly stated that the series intentionally mixes up what is real and what is fictional.

He said that in the film industry, “numerous truths and falsehoods, often masquerading as one another,” exist. This is what keeps the audience engaged, he felt.
The director explained that the show should not be seen as a documentary. He said that some parts are “drawn from reality.” But other parts are “embellished” to make it a good cinematic experience. This means some scenes are based on real things, but they are made more dramatic for the screen.

One scene, in particular, has caught everyone’s attention. It shows a fictional government agency called NCG conducting a raid at a party. Many critics and viewers have said that this scene closely mirrors the real-life experience Aryan Khan went through in 2021. It was a very tough time for him and his family.
The scene, for many, felt like the director was taking a public stand on that incident. Some reviewers called it a moment of “commentary and catharsis.”
The series boldly tears into the shallow glamour of the industry. It mocks the “doglapan” (hypocrisy) that is often present. One scene shows a stuntman getting seriously injured, but the producer is only worried about the shooting getting delayed. Such scenes are hard-hitting. They show the often-ignored side of movie-making.
Aryan Khan is the son of superstar Shah Rukh Khan. His directorial debut has been praised for being very self-aware. He even included famous celebrities like Karan Johar and Salman Khan, playing exaggerated versions of themselves. This meta-commentary adds a lot of humor and edge to the show.
The director insisted that the satire was done with respect. He said, “We aimed to be self-deprecating without crossing the line into disrespect.” He also stressed the importance of creative balance. He wanted the series to be “rooted in a reality that feels authentic, even when it’s heightened.”
The Ba*ds of Bollywood have clearly made a bold statement. It shows that Aryan Khan is ready to discuss the real issues within the industry he grew up in. By acknowledging that reality inspires the show, he has made the series even more relevant and intriguing for the audience. The show is now streaming on Netflix.
