Bhooth Bangla Opening Weekend Box Office Collection & Budget
Bhooth Bangla First Weekend Box Office: India Net Collections Cross ₹58 Cr While Overseas Gross Touches ₹28 Cr
MUMBAI — Stop the presses and let us look at the hard math. Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan’s Bhooth Bangla has officially wrapped its highly anticipated opening weekend, and the final numbers are telling a very specific story.
The horror-comedy has posted a solid domestic net collection of ₹58.56 Cr, bringing the India gross to ₹69.09 Cr.
Now, throw a surprisingly massive overseas gross of ₹28 Cr into the mix, and the worldwide weekend gross stands at a very healthy ₹97.09 Cr. But here is the ultimate catch that the trade is whispering about. The picture carries a massive production budget of ₹130 Cr.
So, are we looking at a clean hit, an average earner, or a potential disappointment? Let us break down the absolute reality of this theatrical run.

The Akshay-Priyadarshan Reunion: Relief or Panic?
The stakes were sky-high for this actor-director duo. They have given the Indian box office some of its most iconic comedy blockbusters over the past two decades. But the post-pandemic theatrical landscape in 2026 is a completely different beast.
A ₹58.56 Cr opening weekend is by no means a disaster. In fact, for a comedy film relying heavily on word-of-mouth, it is a decent and steady start.
Let us compare apples to apples. If you look at Kartik Aaryan’s hit Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, that picture did a first weekend of around ₹55.96 Cr.
Bhooth Bangla has successfully edged past that milestone, collecting a few crores more in its first three days. That is a clear and undeniable positive for the makers. It shows the audience is still hungry for well-executed horror-comedies.
But boss, trade logic demands context. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was made on a much tighter budget. Bhooth Bangla comes with a heavy ₹130 Cr price tag, largely due to high talent fees and top-tier visual effects.
This means the ₹58.56 Cr domestic net is just the foundation. The producers are definitely not popping champagne just yet. The theatrical run needs serious legs to recover the massive investment. The lead actor desperately needed a massive crowd-puller.
While the core fan base has shown up, the footfalls are not at a historic or record-breaking level. This is strictly an average to good opening, entirely driven by family audiences stepping out in big numbers on Saturday and Sunday.
Here is the absolute reality of the current trade picture.
The domestic numbers alone would have pushed the film into a highly stressful danger zone. It is the overseas audience that is actively saving the film right now.
A phenomenal ₹28 Cr from international markets in just three days is a massive lifeline. It proves the Akshay-Priyadarshan nostalgia still holds immense weight among the global diaspora, especially in the US, UK, and Gulf markets.
If the film is approaching the ₹100 Cr worldwide mark by Sunday night, sitting pretty at ₹97.09 Cr, it is entirely because the overseas circuits overperformed beyond early trade estimates.
Decoding Bhooth Bangla Weekend Occupancy Fundas
Let us get into the day-wise momentum and occupancy fundas. The film opened on Friday with a domestic net of ₹16 Cr, which translates to an India Gross of ₹18.88 Cr.
For a holiday release or a massive action spectacle, you would expect ₹25 Cr plus. But for a regular non-holiday Friday, ₹16 Cr is a highly respectable launchpad. It clearly indicated that the initial audience word-of-mouth was not toxic. The morning shows opened to average occupancy, but the evening shows saw a much-needed spike in walk-ins.
Saturday was the ultimate litmus test. A flat Saturday means game over for a comedy film. But Bhooth Bangla passed the test. It registered a very healthy 21.13% jump, collecting ₹19.38 Cr net, taking the India Gross to ₹22.86 Cr. This is exactly what trade analysts want to see. It showed that families and multiplex crowds were actively buying tickets. The mass single-screen circuits held steady, while the urban multiplex centres picked up the slack.
Then came the crucial Sunday. The film absolutely needed to cross the twenty-crore mark to keep the trade optimistic for the weekdays, and it delivered exactly that. We saw a solid 19.61% jump on Sunday, pulling in ₹23.18 Cr net, which equals ₹27.35 Cr Gross.
Notice the mathematical trend here.
The jumps are hovering right around 20% each day. This is a very organic and steady growth curve. It tells us that the situational comedy and horror elements are working for the target demographic.
There is no artificial hype or corporate booking at play here. It is just genuine walk-in audiences driving the evening and night show occupancy across major Indian cities. Adding it all up, the total India net sits at a decent ₹58.56 Cr, and the India gross hits ₹69.09 Cr.
Nitesh’s Verdict on the Lifetime Run
So, what is the final trade verdict from my desk?
I will give it to you straight, without any sugarcoating.
Bhooth Bangla is currently riding the middle path. The ₹97.09 Cr worldwide gross is a highly respectable figure for an opening weekend. The upward weekend trend is a very positive sign. But that massive ₹130 Cr budget is the elephant in the room that we cannot ignore.
To recover costs and secure a clean hit status, the Monday drop cannot be fatal.
The drop from Friday’s ₹16 Cr cannot exceed 50%. If Monday crashes to single digits, specifically below the ₹8 Cr mark, the ₹130 Cr budget will suddenly become a huge hurdle.
The domestic lifetime collection needs to comfortably cross ₹120 Cr to ensure the makers are safe before the lucrative satellite and digital rights kick in.
Right now, the overseas collection is acting as a massive financial cushion. If international markets sustain their momentum during the weekdays, the worldwide gross will easily sail past ₹150 Cr by the end of week one.
The picture has survived the crucial weekend test. Now, it has to survive the brutal weekdays.
