Pawan Kalyan’s ‘They Call Him OG’ Box Office: Is the Rs. 200 Crore Net Mark Too Far Now?
Power Star Pawan Kalyan’s latest action thriller “They Call Him OG” is facing a tough battle at the box office. The film is struggling to cross the Rs. 200 crore net mark in India.
Mumbai, October 17, 2025 – Power Star Pawan Kalyan’s latest action thriller “They Call Him OG” is facing a tough battle at the box office. The film is struggling to cross the Rs. 200 crore net mark in India.
After 21 days of release, the collections have come down to a disappointing level.
Pawan Kalyan’s ‘They Call Him OG’ Current Situation
As per the latest reports, the film has collected Rs. 192.35 crore net in India. This is after three weeks of theatrical run. The daily collections have now dropped to just Rs. 36 lakh. This is a huge fall from the opening day numbers.

On Day 22, the film managed to earn only Rs. 38 lakh according to trade sources.
The film is now just Rs. 7-8 crore away from the Rs. 200 crore net mark. But experts feel this target looks difficult now. The collections are falling every day. The competition at the box office is also very high.
They Call Him OG Strong Opening Weekend
The film had started on a very strong note. It was released on September 25, 2025. The opening day collection was Rs. 63.75 crore net in India. If we add the premiere shows, the total was around Rs. 85-90 crore gross on the first day itself.
The film had created history with its opening. It became the biggest opener of 2025 in India. It beat films like Rajinikanth’s Coolie and many other big releases. The first weekend total was Rs. 140 crore net. The first week collection stood at Rs. 169.3 crore net.
This was the biggest opening ever for a Pawan Kalyan film. Fans were very excited about the movie. The advance bookings were also phenomenal. The film had collected between Rs. 90-98 crore globally through advance sales alone.

The Big Drop
However, the film saw a massive drop after the first weekend. On Day 2, the collections fell to Rs. 18.45 crore. On the following days, it hovered around Rs. 18-18.5 crore. But from Day 5 onwards, there was a 60% drop. The film collected only Rs. 7.4 crore on that day.
In the second week, the situation became worse. The daily collections dropped to the Rs. 4-5 crore range. On the second Friday, the film earned Rs. 5.75 crore. The second weekend total was around Rs. 18.5 crore only. This was a huge decline from the opening weekend.
The third week has been particularly difficult. The film struggled to earn even Rs. 1-1.5 crore per day. On the third Saturday and Sunday, it collected only Rs. 1.47 crore and Rs. 1.34 crore, respectively. Now in the fourth week, the numbers have gone down to under Rs. 50 lakh per day.
Mixed Reviews Hurt the Film
One of the main reasons for this drop is the mixed reviews. Critics and audiences had different opinions about the film. Some praised Pawan Kalyan’s performance and the action sequences. But many felt the story was weak.
The film got ratings of 2.5 to 3 out of 5 stars from most critics. They said the film was made only for hardcore fans. The emotional depth was missing. The story had many old and repeated ideas. The wife’s murder and the daughter’s kidnapping felt very common.
Because of these mixed reviews, the word of mouth was not strong. General audiences did not feel the need to watch it. Only the core fan base turned up at theatres. Once they watched the movie, the collections naturally came down.
Competition From Other Films
Another big problem is the competition. After a couple of weeks, Rishab Shetty’s “Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1” was released. This film has become a massive blockbuster across India. It has already crossed the Rs. 450 crore mark.
Because of Kantara’s strong performance, many screens were given to it. This affected the screen count for “They Call Him OG”. In the Telugu states themselves, Kantara is doing great business. This has taken away family audiences from Pawan Kalyan’s film.
There are also other releases in Hindi and other languages. All this has created tough competition at the multiplexes. With Diwali also coming up, new big films will be released soon. This will further reduce the screens for OG.

Will They Call Him OG Cross Rs. 200 Crore?
Trade experts feel it will be very difficult for the film to reach Rs. 200 crore net in India now. At the current pace, it may end up between Rs. 195-198 crore. Even reaching Rs. 198 crore looks challenging now.
The film needed much better collections in the third and fourth weeks. But that did not happen. The Dussehra holidays did help a bit. But it was not enough. The drop has been too sharp.
Some experts say the film might just cross Rs. 200 crore if it gets some support during the weekend. But with new releases coming, this looks unlikely. The theatrical run is almost over in most places. Only a few screens are still playing the movie.

They Call Him OG Worldwide Collections Are Better
While the Indian numbers are disappointing, the worldwide picture is slightly better. The film has collected around Rs. 280-284 crore gross at the worldwide box office. This includes both domestic and overseas collections.
The overseas market has been very good for the film. In countries like the USA, the film performed very well during the opening. The North America premiere collections were around Rs. 30 crore. The total overseas gross is around Rs. 65 crore.
The film crossed the Rs. 200 crore mark worldwide in just three days. This was the first time for a Pawan Kalyan film. It also became the highest-grossing Telugu film of 2025. It beat Venkatesh’s “Sankranthiki Vasthunam,” which had collected Rs. 255 crore worldwide.
They Call Him OG Business Verdict
From a business point of view, the film is in a tricky situation. The production budget was reportedly Rs. 250 crore. Pawan Kalyan alone got Rs. 100 crore as remuneration.
The theatrical rights were sold for around Rs. 166 crore. The Telugu state’s rights alone were valued at Rs. 137 crore. For the distributors to break even, the film needed to gross above Rs. 225 crore in the Telugu states alone.
But the film has collected only around Rs. 210-215 crore gross there. This means the distributors in Telugu states will face losses. However, in overseas markets, Karnataka and the rest of India, the film will be profitable.
The biggest profit is coming from overseas business. The rights were sold for Rs. 18 crore. But the collections have reached Rs. 65 crore. This is excellent business.
Final Thoughts
“They Call Him OG” started like a storm at the box office. It created multiple records on the opening day. But it could not sustain that momentum. The mixed reviews and strong competition pulled it down.
The Rs. 200 crore net mark in India now looks like a big challenge. The film may fall just short of this milestone. But overall, it is still one of the biggest hits of Pawan Kalyan’s career. The worldwide numbers are impressive.
The film had Emraan Hashmi making his Telugu debut. It also featured Priyanka Mohan, Prakash Raj, Arjun Das, and Sriya Reddy. The music was by Thaman S. Director Sujeeth tried to create a stylish gangster drama. But it worked only partially with audiences.
The film will soon end its theatrical run. After that, it will stream on Netflix. The OTT release date has not been announced yet. Fans who missed it in theatres can watch it at home soon.
