A Strong Start for Coolie
Rajinikanth’s Coolie came with huge expectations. It was released on August 14, a big holiday weekend. The film had a massive opening, collecting a whopping ₹65 crore on day one in India.
This was even better than the first-day collection of Vijay’s Leo, which had a great opening too. Within just two weeks, Coolie has crossed the ₹270 crore mark in India, a very good number. It has also performed well in Hindi, becoming the second-highest-grossing Kollywood film in that language, surpassing Leo.
A Look Back at Leo
Vijay’s Leo was a huge hit last year. It was part of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s popular cinematic universe, which created a lot of hype. The film had a fantastic run at the box office.
After 15 days, Leo had earned around ₹317 crore net in India. This number is still higher than what Coolie has earned so far in its first 15 days. Leo was a global success, too, crossing the ₹500 crore worldwide mark in just six days.
The Comparison: Slowdown vs. Strong Pace – Coolie vs Leo
While Coolie had a bigger first-day opening, its collection has slowed down in the second week.
On its 15th day, Coolie collected its lowest amount, an estimated ₹2.4 crore. This is a noticeable drop. In comparison, Leo also saw a decline in its third week, but it had already made more money in the first two weeks. Leo’s 15th day collection was around ₹2.90 crore, which was also a drop but still higher than Coolie’s.

Coolie is still a big hit for Rajinikanth. It has become his third film to cross the ₹500 crore mark worldwide. It shows the superstar’s amazing box office power.
What Does This Mean?
Both films have shown the strength of their stars. Rajinikanth’s Coolie had an incredible start, proving his enduring popularity. Vijay’s Leo had a more consistent, strong run and is currently ahead in the total domestic collection after 15 days.
The final box office numbers will tell the full story. But for now, Leo holds the lead in the 15-day collection comparison. Both Lokesh Kanagaraj and the two superstars have given the Indian film industry more reasons to celebrate.
