Raja Shivaji OTT Platform Announced: Streaming date for the biggest Marathi hit
Mumbai — Riteish Deshmukh’s magnum opus Raja Shivaji has officially claimed the throne as the biggest Marathi opener in history, with producers now confirming a July 2026 OTT window on Jio Cinema after a record-breaking three-day theatrical run.
Mumbai is roaring. History is rewritten. The box office is on fire.
While the film continues to pack theaters across Maharashtra and beyond, the Stan Twitter circles are already buzzing about when this historical action drama will land on our smaller screens.
The Swarajya Wave Shatters The Marathi Box Office
The numbers are simply insane. Released on May 1, 2026, to coincide with Maharashtra Day, Raja Shivaji netted a massive ₹12.40 crore on its opening day. It didn’t stop there.
On Saturday, it held strong with ₹11.50 crore, making it the first Marathi film ever to deliver double-digit figures for two consecutive days. By the time Sunday rolled around, the domestic total had already cruised past the ₹26 crore mark, effectively dethroning Sairat as the biggest opener the industry has ever seen.
Look at the impact. This isn’t just a movie; it is a cultural earthquake. It has completely overshadowed other releases like Dhurandhar 2 in the region. Every single screening in Mumbai and Pune is practically a celebration.
But honestly, do we even need an OTT release this early?
When a film is performing this well, the traditional PR move is to stretch the theatrical window as far as it can go. Yet, the digital countdown has already begun.
Jio Studios Locks The Digital Fortress For Raja Shivaji
As per reports from Insiders and the production team at Jio Studios, the digital rights have been parked with Jio Cinema, potentially under the new Jio Hotstar branding.
The theatrical-to-digital window is expected to be approximately eight weeks. This means that while you can watch Riteish Deshmukh as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in theaters today, the soft launch on streaming is slated for July or August 2026.
The production scale is visible in every frame.
Produced by Genelia Deshmukh and Jyoti Deshpande, the film had a massive budget ranging between ₹75 crore and ₹100 crore. It is officially the most expensive Marathi production ever made. With legendary cinematographer Santosh Sivan making his Marathi debut and music by the hit-makers Ajay-Atul, the technical polish is world-class.
Why The July Window Makes Absolute Strategic Sense
The timeline is a calculated play. By keeping the film exclusive to theaters for at least two months, the makers are giving Raja Shivaji enough room to breathe and potentially cross the ₹100 crore theatrical milestone.

The fandom is already showing up in droves to see the stellar cast, which includes Sanjay Dutt as Afzal Khan and Abhishek Bachchan as Sambhaji Shahaji Bhosale.
Even Salman Khan has a special cameo as Jiva Mahala, the loyal warrior who protected the Maharaj.
The narrative doesn’t just focus on the battles; it dives into the foundation of Swarajya. Fans are already making edits of Riteish’s transformation, which took nearly ten years of prep work to finalize.
Once the theatrical fervor cools down in late June, the OTT release will capture the global audience and those who prefer the comfort of home viewing.
The strategy is clear. Rule the theaters in May and June. Conquer the digital space in July. For now, the call of the bugle is only heard in the cinema halls.
