Is Jio Studios Creating a Monopoly? The Real Story Behind the Ram Charan Peddi Deal
From Wrestling to Box Office Records: How Jio Studios Plans to Make Ram Charan’s Peddi a North India Sensation
MUMBAI — Ram Charan is officially ready to storm the Hindi heartland, and he is bringing the biggest corporate muscle in the country with him. Jio Studios has just pulled off a massive power play by acquiring the North India theatrical distribution rights for the Mega Power Star’s next biggie, Peddi.
This move has sent shockwaves through the industry because it confirms one thing: the battle for the North Indian box office is no longer just about Bollywood vs. South, but about who controls the distribution pipeline for the biggest Pan-India event films.
The buzz around Peddi has been building for months, especially after Ram Charan’s global fame post-RRR.
This isn’t just another regional film dubbed in Hindi; it is a full-blown sports-action spectacle set in the rustic backdrop of 1980s Andhra Pradesh. With the film now locked for a worldwide release on June 4, 2026, Jio Studios is positioning itself as the ultimate gateway for South Indian “Mass” cinema to reach every single screen from Delhi to Dehradun.
As per the official announcement made by the studio on their social media handles, they will be handling both the Hindi and Telugu versions across the North Indian territories.
This deal comes right on the heels of their massive success with films like Dhurandhar 2, proving that the studio is hungry to dominate the theatrical space. While many expected a traditional Bollywood distributor to bag this project, Jio’s entry suggests a changing of the guard in how big-ticket films are brought to the Hindi-speaking audience.
The industry is currently buzzing with one major question: Can a corporate giant like Jio Studios replicate the raw, grassroots marketing energy that a rustic film like Peddi requires?

We have seen North Indian audiences embrace the “matti ki khushboo” in films like Pushpa, but Peddi adds a unique twist by mixing sports like wrestling and cricket with high-octane action.
The real test will be whether the corporate machinery can build the kind of “desi” hype that turns a film into a cult phenomenon before the first show even begins.
The evidence of the film’s scale is already visible in the production details. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana—the man who gave us the blockbuster Uppena—and presented by the powerhouse Sukumar Writings and Mythri Movie Makers, Peddi has all the ingredients of a winner.
The film features Janhvi Kapoor as the female lead, marking a fresh pairing that is already a hit on social media. Add to that the legendary A.R. Rahman handling the music and a supporting cast featuring Shiva Rajkumar and Boman Irani, and you have a project that feels truly national in its soul.

Fans won’t have to wait much longer for a glimpse of the madness. The makers have confirmed that the theatrical trailer will be launched in Mumbai on May 18, 2026.
Interestingly, the team had originally planned an event in Bhopal on May 16 but shifted the trailer launch to Mumbai to maximise the impact in the trade capital.
This shift clearly shows that Jio Studios is taking the Hindi market very seriously, aiming for a wide, high-profile release that rivals any major Bollywood holiday release.
With no major competition currently standing in its way for the June 4 window, Peddi has a clear runway to dominate the charts.
Ram Charan has undergone a massive physical transformation for this role, learning the Vizianagaram dialect and training under celebrity fitness coaches to look like a 1980s powerhouse. If the “Jio factor” works its magic, we might be looking at the first massive blockbuster of the summer that unites the North and South like never before.
