Inside the Opening Weekend: What Thamma’s Numbers Reveal About Demand
The journey for Thamma started with some worry. The advance bookings, or pre-sales, were not very strong.
The Thamma film had a huge 6-day collection. But pre-sales, ticketing, and geography show a complex picture.
What Thamma’s Opening Weekend Numbers Reveal About Demand
Mumbai, October 27, 2025
The new Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna film, Thamma, has finished its big opening weekend. The film is part of the famous Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, like Stree and Bhediya.

Because it was released on Diwali (Tuesday, October 21), it got an extended 6-day weekend. The total collection for this first weekend is a huge ₹93.7 crore in India.
This number looks fantastic. But when we look deeper, the numbers tell a complicated story. They show what the Indian audience really wants right now. We look at the pre-sale signals, ticketing trends, and geography to understand the real demand.
Pre-Sale Signals: A Modest Start
The journey for Thamma started with some worry. The advance bookings, or pre-sales, were not very strong.
Before the release, the film had collected only about ₹4 crore to ₹6 crore in advance sales. For a big franchise film releasing on Diwali, this number was low. The industry was surprised. It looked like the “pre-release buzz” was not high.
But Thamma had a secret weapon: the Diwali holiday. The film opened to a massive ₹23.11 crore on Day 1. This shows that the pre-sale signal was wrong. The demand was high, but it was “walk-in” demand. People decided to watch the film on the holiday itself, rather than booking tickets in advance.
The low pre-sales did not show low demand; it showed a change in how people buy tickets during a big festival.

Ticketing Trends: The Mid-Week Drop and Weekend Jump
The daily numbers show a roller-coaster trend. This is the most important sign of demand.
Day 1 (Tue, Diwali): ₹24 crore
Day 2 (Wed): ₹18.6 crore
Day 3 (Thu): ₹13 crore
Day 4 (Fri): ₹10crore
This daily drop was very fast. It shows that the initial holiday crowd was huge. But the regular audience on normal working days was not as strong. The demand seemed to be falling.
But then, the real weekend started.
Day 5 (Sat): ₹13.1 crore
Day 6 (Sun): ₹15 crore

On Saturday, the film saw a big jump of over 30% from Friday. This is a very positive signal. A Saturday jump means the word-of-mouth is good. Families and regular audiences, who are free on weekends, came to the theatres. They likely came because they heard good things from friends who saw it earlier.
The film stayed stable on Sunday. This weekend jump proves that Thamma is not just a “one-day wonder.” It shows real, growing demand from the family audience.
Geography: A Story of Mixed Demand
The ₹86 crore total is not coming equally from all over India. The geographical numbers show a mixed bag.
The film is performing very well in North India. Reports show it is strong in circuits like UP and Bihar. The Chhath Puja holiday today (Monday) will also help collections in these areas.
However, the film is underperforming in some key markets. In Gujarat and parts of the main Mumbai circuit, the collections are lower than expected for such a big film. A film needs support from these big markets to become a “blockbuster.”
At the same time, Thamma is doing very well in overseas markets (outside India). It has already collected over ₹13 crore from international audiences. This shows a strong demand from NRIs for the horror-comedy genre.
What It All Means
- The Weekend-1 numbers for Thamma show a film with good, but not great, demand.
- Demand Driver: The main demand came from the Diwali holiday and the Maddock brand.
- The Worry: The low pre-sales and sharp drops from Tuesday to Friday were warning signs.
- The Hope: The big jump on Saturday is the best news for the film. It proves that audiences are liking the film, and it now has a chance to have a long run at the box office.
The real test for Thamma begins now. Today is the first “real” Monday after the long holiday. If the collections stay strong today, the film is on its way to becoming a certified hit.
