Ranveer Singh Vs Yash: Can Dhurandhar 2 Really Topple KGF 2 Box Office Records?
Sunday, 22 March 2026. Mumbai. The Indian film industry is currently witnessing a box office massacre that nobody saw coming at this scale.
Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge has officially crossed the ₹500 Crore mark at the worldwide box office in just three days, plus its limited previews. The film collected a staggering ₹113.80 Crore Net in India on its third day alone, taking its total domestic net to ₹345.01 Crore.
This is massive because it has officially pulled ahead of the three-day record set by the legendary K.G.F: Chapter 2, which stood at approximately ₹289 Crore India Net. With a worldwide gross sitting at ₹506.05 Crore, the trade is currently trying to figure out where this tsunami will eventually stop.
The Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar Masterclass
This success is not just about the numbers; it is about the shift in audience taste. When Aditya Dhar announced a sequel to the 2025 hit, the pressure was sky-high.
However, the combination of Ranveer Singh’s raw intensity and a grounded, patriotic story has worked like magic.
Fans are absolutely loving the “Revenge” arc, and the theaters in Mumbai and Delhi are reporting nearly 80% occupancy even on what the distributors are calling “weekdays”.
The film feels like a heavy-duty action spectacle that doesn’t lose its soul. While the first part was a sleeper hit, this sequel has arrived like a king. The chemistry between the high-octane background score and the brutal action choreography is making the audience go wild in the single screens of North India.
But there is an interesting tension brewing in the industry.
While North Indian stars like Ram Charan and Jr NTR have praised the film, veteran actors like Prakash Raj have subtly criticised the “obligations” of praising such high-voltage patriotic cinema.
Some segments of the audience are calling it a “masterpiece” of modern spy thrillers, while others on social media are debating the “propaganda” vs “patriotism” angle.
Regardless of the debate, the “BoxOfficeWala” tracking shows that the common man is choosing the ticket window over the Twitter arguments. This kind of polarising energy often helps a movie more than it hurts it, and Dhurandhar 2 is the perfect example.
The current mood in the trade is one of disbelief.
Are we really comparing a Hindi spy thriller to the cult status of Rocky Bhai?
K.G.F: Chapter 2 was a monster that changed how we looked at regional cinema.
Comparing Dhurandhar 2 to it might feel like a stretch to some purists. However, the numbers don’t lie. If a film earns ₹113 Crore Net on a Saturday, it is no longer just a “hit”. It is a cultural event.
But can it sustain this without the “sequel hype” carry-over?
Most big films crash on the first Monday. If Dhurandhar 2 holds steady tomorrow, we might be looking at the first ₹1000 Crore Net film in Hindi cinema history.
Breaking Down the 3-Day Face-off
To understand the magnitude of this achievement, we have to look at the daily grit of Dhurandhar 2. The journey began with paid previews on Wednesday, which minted ₹44 Crore Net.
This was followed by a massive Day 1 (Thursday) opening of ₹104.07 Crore Net. Most films would see a 50% drop after such a huge start, but this one only dropped 20.1% on Friday, earning ₹83.14 Crore Net. Then came the Saturday jump. Even though the trade labeled it a “Weekday,” the film saw a 36.88% increase to hit ₹113.8 Crore Net. This brought the 3-day total to ₹345.01 Crore Net, which is higher than K.G.F: Chapter 2’s ₹286-289 Crore Net in the same period.
The worldwide collections are equally terrifying for the competition. Dhurandhar 2 has already grossed ₹409.05 Crore in India.
When you add the overseas collection of ₹97 Crore (which only accounts for the first two days), the total reaches ₹506.05 Crore. In comparison, K.G.F: Chapter 2 had crossed the ₹400 Crore mark worldwide in its first three days, but Dhurandhar 2 has already surpassed the ₹500 Crore mark in the same window. The film was produced on a budget of ₹150 Crore, meaning the producers have already more than tripled their investment in just 72 hours.
What the Future Holds
The real test begins now. Sunday trends are already looking “massive,” with morning show occupancies touching 73.7% nationwide.
Early trade estimates suggest that Sunday could be the biggest day yet, potentially eyeing the ₹120-130 Crore Net range. If it hits these numbers, Dhurandhar 2 will not just be a blockbuster; it will be an all-time record breaker. The film is currently running on 20,917 shows across India, which is a scale rarely seen even for the biggest Pan-India films.
The path forward looks clear for the next week. With no major releases to challenge it, Dhurandhar 2 is set to dominate the box office. The “steady hold” on Day 2 and the “decent jump” on Day 3 have given the industry a much-needed boost.
While some might miss the presence of characters from the first part, Ranveer Singh’s “Beast Mode” performance has filled that void for the masses. Whether it can beat the lifetime collection of K.G.F: Chapter 2 remains to be seen, but the opening weekend belongs entirely to the “Dhurandhar” team.
This is a phenomenal moment for the trade. Seeing a ₹150 Crore budget film return ₹500 Crore in three days is a dream scenario for any producer. It proves that the “Indian Spy Universe” or “Spy Thrillers” with a high emotional core are the new gold mine.
In my view, this is the best news for Bollywood in years. It shows that we can produce Pan-India level numbers if the content is “Ruthless, Patriotic, and Thunderous” enough. The momentum is clearly with the film, and a ₹1000 Crore global finish looks like a very realistic goal now.
Do you think Dhurandhar 2 has enough power to beat the lifetime worldwide record of K.G.F: Chapter 2, or is this just an opening weekend blast? Let me know in the comments!
