‘The Odyssey’ Takes Box Office Crown
Christopher Nolan’s star-studded epic The Odyssey has officially surpassed Deadpool & Wolverine to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.
Globally, the film has brought in an impressive $1.352 billion, topping the $1.338 billion mark set by Marvel’s 2024 superhero blockbuster.
Led by Matt Damon alongside an ensemble cast featuring Zendaya, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson, the feature opened strong with $124.5 million domestically and $139.6 million internationally.
Its overall earnings have reached $516.3 million in North America and $835 million overseas, securing its place as 2026’s second-biggest theatrical release.
Prior record-holder Deadpool & Wolverine had previously dethroned 2019’s Joker after a massive $205 million domestic debut.
Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains ahead of The Odyssey as 2026’s top-performing film overall, ranking as the fourth-highest-grossing release ever in North America and becoming the fastest film to reach $800 million domestically.
As The Odyssey continues its record-breaking theatrical run, Marvel fans are also anticipating Ryan Reynolds’s potential return as Deadpool in Avengers: Doomsday this December.
