A big fight has started in the film world. The battle is for cinema screens. Two big Hindi movies are set to release this Diwali weekend. They are ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ and ‘Thamma’. Both films will hit theatres on October 21.
The producers of ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ are very unhappy. They are battling with the ‘Thamma’ team over screen sharing. They have asked multiplexes to give their film a fair number of shows.

The Screen War Begins – Thamma Vs Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat
The Diwali weekend is one of the best times for movie releases. Two big films releasing at the same time are called a “clash.” In a clash, the biggest fight is always for screens and show timings.
The team behind ‘Thamma’ has asked for a very large share of the screens. They want most of the shows in many theatres. This leaves very few shows for ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat.’

‘Thamma’ Team’s Huge Demand
‘Thamma’ stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna. It is a horror-comedy and is part of the successful ‘Maddock Horror Comedy Universe.’

A distributor for ‘Thamma’ in the Mumbai area has sent a letter to cinemas. The letter demands all shows in single-screen theatres. They have also asked for all shows in two-screen cinemas.
In bigger multiplexes (3, 4, 5 screens, etc.), they want a huge percentage of shows. For example, in a three-screen multiplex, they have asked for 12 shows. This means almost all shows on two screens will go to ‘Thamma.’
‘Deewaniyat’ Demands Equal Treatment
‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat’ stars Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa. It is an intense romantic musical. The film’s music is a big hit already.

The ‘Deewaniyat’ team is very confident about their film. They believe their film’s buzz is as big as ‘Thamma,’ even with a smaller budget. They feel they should get an equal number of shows in multiplexes.
Allegations of Foul Play
Sources say the ‘Deewaniyat’ team has asked all national multiplex chains to be fair. They have requested that show timings should be given based on public demand, not on favoritism.
There are concerns because PVR Inox Pictures is distributing ‘Thamma.’ Also, a senior person who used to work at PVR Inox is now part of the ‘Thamma’ distribution team. The ‘Deewaniyat’ makers fear this connection might be used to get more screens. They are worried about “foul play.”
Reports suggest the ‘Thamma’ team has asked for around 75 percent of the shows in multiplexes. This would leave only 25 percent for ‘Deewaniyat.’
Exhibitors Are Worried
The owners of cinema halls, called exhibitors, are also facing a difficult situation. They want to show both films because both look promising.
One exhibitor said that single-screen cinemas should definitely get a chance to play ‘Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat.’ The Harshvardhan Rane film might do very well in these smaller, mass-audience theatres.
Also, this Diwali, there are regional film releases too. Marathi film Premachi Goshta 2 and Gujarati film Chaniya Toli are also releasing. The exhibitors have to find space for these films as well. They hope a fair solution can be found soon.
Advance Booking May Get Delayed
This big fight over screens is causing problems. The advance bookings for both films were supposed to start tomorrow, on October 17.

However, sources suggest that the ticket bookings might get delayed. This is because the fight over show sharing is still going on between the two film parties. Until the final number of shows is decided, the bookings cannot open.
This box office battle is turning into a major showdown. Everyone is waiting to see how the multiplex chains will handle this tricky situation. The success of both films depends heavily on getting a fair amount of screens.
