Thursday Box Office: Top 5 Films on 05 March 2026 – Thaai Kizhavi 2026 Becomes a Profit Machine!
Thursday Box Office: The Kerala Story 2 Leads While O Romeo Struggles on Day 21
Mumbai, Friday – The Thursday box office numbers are out, and the mid-week blues have hit the theatrical run hard as even the top-grossers felt the heat of the upcoming Friday releases. The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond remained the number one film in India on its seventh day, collecting ₹2.4 Cr Net, bringing its first-week total to ₹22.84 Cr, while the Tamil sensation Thaai Kizhavi 2026 followed closely with ₹1.6 Cr Net on Day 7, pushing its worldwide total to a massive ₹32.9 Cr.
Meanwhile, the big-budget O Romeo saw a significant decline on its 21st day, managing only ₹0.6 Cr Net, which raises serious questions about its ₹150 Cr recovery. Vishnu Vinyasam also stayed flat at ₹0.6 Cr, and the Punjabi drama Viyaah Kartaare Da struggled with ₹0.23 Cr as it closed its first week.
The Mid-Week Slump: A Reality Check for Producers
The current mood in the trade is one of cautious observation rather than celebration. We often see films starting strong over the weekend, but the true test of a movie’s soul is how it survives the Monday-to-Thursday stretch without crashing.
If a film cannot hold at least 40% of its Friday collections on a Thursday, is it really a hit, or just a product of heavy marketing?

The Kerala Story 2 is holding on, but the 34% drop from Wednesday (₹3.65 Cr) to Thursday (₹2.4 Cr) suggests that the initial wave of curiosity might be settling down. Is the Indian audience finally moving away from high-voltage dramas toward more grounded storytelling, or is this just the calm before another storm?
The Kerala Story 2: First Week Analysis
The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond has finished its first week with a respectable ₹22.84 Cr Total Net in India.
The Kerala Story 2: Goes BeyondDay 8
According to BoxOfficeWala tracking, the film saw a steady decline throughout the week. It started its journey with a strong Sunday at ₹4.5 Cr, but by Monday, it dropped to ₹2.65 Cr.
While it picked up slightly on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Thursday figures of ₹2.4 Cr Net indicate typical fatigue. With a Gross collection of ₹2.83 Cr on Day 7 and a Worldwide total of ₹26.94 Cr, the film has recovered a significant chunk of its ₹30 Cr budget. However, the second weekend will be crucial to see if it can cross the ₹50 Cr mark.

Thaai Kizhavi 2026: The Regional Powerhouse
Thaai Kizhavi 2026Day 8
Thaai Kizhavi 2026 continues to be the most profitable film in this list. On its seventh day, it earned ₹1.6 Cr Net, which is a decent hold considering its Day 6 collection was ₹2.35 Cr. What makes this film stand out is its budget-to-collection ratio. Made on a lean budget of ₹12 Cr, it has already amassed ₹22.56 Cr Total Net in India and a whopping ₹32.9 Cr Worldwide.
The distributor data shows that the film is performing exceptionally well in B and C centers, where the emotional connect of the story is resonating with the masses. It has already tripled its investment, making it a certified hit for the producers.
O Romeo: The ₹150 Crore Headache
The situation for O Romeo is looking increasingly dire.
O RomeoDay 22
On its 21st day, the film collected just ₹0.6 Cr Net. For a film produced with a massive ₹150 Cr budget, a Total Net of ₹69 Cr after three weeks is a disaster. Early trade estimates suggest that the film’s theatrical run is almost over, and it might not even reach the ₹75 Cr mark domestically.
Even the Worldwide collection of ₹106.8 Cr doesn’t offer much relief, as the overhead costs and distributor shares will leave the producers in the red. The fan wars on social media haven’t helped either, as the negative word-of-mouth regarding the script’s length and pacing has kept the neutral audience away.
Small Scale Struggles: Vishnu Vinyasam and Others
Vishnu Vinyasam, which was made on a ₹20 Cr budget, managed only ₹0.6 Cr on its seventh day.
Vishnu VinyasamDay 8
With a total India Net of ₹10.45 Cr, it has only recovered half of its production cost in the first week.
Viyaah Kartaare DaDay 8
The Punjabi film Viyaah Kartaare Da is even further behind, earning ₹0.23 Cr on Thursday for a total Net of ₹3.32 Cr against a ₹12 Cr budget.
Masthishka Maranam 2026Day 8
Lastly, Masthishka Maranam 2026 collected a mere ₹0.2 Cr on its seventh day, bringing its total to ₹2.73 Cr. These numbers show a clear trend: if a film doesn’t have a “hook” or a massive star, the Thursday box office can be a very lonely place.
Looking at these numbers, it is clear that the audience is becoming extremely picky.
The Kerala Story 2 and Thaai Kizhavi are the only ones breathing comfortably because they addressed specific audience segments with clarity. O Romeo is a classic example of why a big budget cannot save a weak script. In my view, this Thursday has been a wake-up call for big-budget filmmakers. If you aren’t offering something “theatrical” enough, people will simply wait for the OTT release. The era of the “average hit” is dying. You are either a blockbuster or a washout.
With the new releases coming in today, which film do you think will survive the second-week onslaught?
