Wednesday Box Office Rankings: Top 5 Films on 04 March 2026 — The Kerala Story 2 Dominates While Thaai Kizhavi Wins Hearts
The Kerala Story 2 Dominates While Thaai Kizhavi Wins Hearts: 04 March 2026 Box Office Report
Looking at the Mumbai trade circles this Thursday morning, 05 March 2026, the Wednesday box office numbers tell a story of two different Indias. While the social drama The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond holds the top spot with a collection of ₹3.65 crore net on its sixth day, the real winner in terms of profit is the Tamil gem Thaai Kizhavi, which brought in ₹2.35 crore. The massive Shahid Kapoor starrer O Romeo continues to struggle on Day 20 with just ₹0.88 crore, bringing its total India net to ₹68.40 crore against a mountain-like ₹150 crore budget.
Meanwhile, the Telugu film Vishnu Vinyasam is fighting for survival with ₹0.81 crore, and the Punjabi entertainer Viyaah Kartaare Da is lagging behind at ₹0.45 crore. It is a day where small budgets are teaching big lessons to the industry.
The trade is currently buzzing with one major question: why is the audience rejecting massive star-led spectacles for rooted, smaller films? If you look at the trajectory of O Romeo, it had everything—Vishal Bhardwaj’s direction, a stellar cast including Triptii Dimri and Nana Patekar, and the backing of a big studio.
Yet, the film has barely touched ₹105.4 crore worldwide after nearly three weeks. This is a disaster for a film that cost ₹150 crore to make. On the other hand, Thaai Kizhavi, made on a modest ₹12 crore budget, has already grossed over ₹30.67 crore worldwide in just six days. This is what we call a clean hit. The audience is clearly looking for relatability over mindless scale.
The current mood suggests that the era of “only stars can pull crowds” is officially over. Everyone is talking about the controversial themes of The Kerala Story 2, but very few are noticing how a simple story of an old woman in Thaai Kizhavi is pulling families back to the theatres.
Is the audience becoming more polarized, or are they just smarter? While some critics label films like The Kerala Story 2 as propaganda, the numbers show that a huge section of the public is willing to pay to watch these narratives. But then, why did a high-quality sci-fi like Masthishka Maranam, which got rave reviews, only manage ₹0.26 crore on Wednesday?. It makes you wonder if “good cinema” is becoming a niche while “vocal cinema” takes the cake.

The Kerala Story 2 Box Office
The Kerala Story 2: Goes BeyondDay 5
Goes Beyond started its journey with ₹4.5 crore on Sunday (Day 3) and saw a typical Monday dip to ₹2.65 crore.
However, it showed a surprising jump on Tuesday to ₹3.85 crore and has maintained a steady hold on Wednesday with ₹3.65 crore. This brings its 6-day total net to ₹20.44 crore. With a budget of ₹30 crore, it is heading towards a respectable finish, though it is far behind the original film’s historic run. The film’s occupancy in the Hindi heartland remains decent, especially in the evening shows.
Thaai Kizhavi Box Office
Thaai Kizhavi 2026Day 5
Thaai Kizhavi 2026 is the dark horse of this season.
On its third day (Sunday), it peaked at ₹6 crore, which is huge for a film of this scale. Even as it entered the weekdays, it stayed strong. Monday saw ₹2.4 crore, Tuesday saw ₹2.75 crore, and Wednesday brought in ₹2.35 crore.
With a worldwide gross of ₹30.67 crore against a ₹12 crore budget, it has already recovered its costs through theatrical runs alone. Radhika Sarathkumar’s performance and the rooted Tamil humor are the primary reasons for this success.
O Romeo Box Office
O RomeoDay 19
Now let’s talk about the pain point of the industry: O Romeo. The film had a decent Day 17 (Sunday) with ₹1.1 crore, but the drop since then has been fatal.
Monday plummeted to ₹0.65 crore, Tuesday stayed flat at ₹0.85 crore, and Wednesday’s ₹0.88 crore is just not enough to save the ship. At Day 20, the film is essentially out of most major screens. The total net of ₹68.40 crore is a massive underperformance for Shahid Kapoor after the highs of his previous years.
Vishnu Vinyasam Box Office
Vishnu VinyasamDay 5
In the Telugu market, Vishnu Vinyasam is finding it hard to cross the double-digit mark.
After a Sunday net of ₹2.43 crore, the film dropped to ₹1.05 crore on Monday and ₹1.06 crore on Tuesday. Wednesday’s collection of ₹0.81 crore indicates that the film might struggle to reach its ₹20 crore budget recovery goal. The total net currently stands at ₹9.85 crore.
Viyaah Kartaare DaDay 5
Similarly, the Punjabi film Viyaah Kartaare Da is proving to be a lukewarm affair. It collected ₹0.45 crore on Wednesday, bringing its total net to ₹2.64 crore. With a ₹12 crore budget, this one is staring at a heavy loss for the distributors.
Masthishka Maranam 2026Day 5
Even the Malayalam sci-fi Masthishka Maranam, despite being a technical marvel, is finding few takers at the ticket window. It earned ₹0.26 crore on Wednesday, taking its 6-day total net to ₹2.53 crore. While it has earned positive reviews for its “cyberpunk satire” and technical finesse, the mass audience seems disconnected from such futuristic concepts.
As we look at the upcoming weekend, the focus will remain on whether The Kerala Story 2 can cross its budget mark and if Thaai Kizhavi can double its investment. The big lesson from this Wednesday’s report is that the audience is no longer forgiving of long, drawn-out epics like O Romeo that fail to connect emotionally. They would rather spend their money on a ₹12 crore film that makes them laugh and cry. The trade is now waiting for the next big release to see if the box office can find its rhythm again.
This Wednesday has been a reality check for the “Big Budget” ego of Bollywood. Seeing a ₹150 crore film like O Romeo being beaten in daily collections by a ₹12 crore film like Thaai Kizhavi is proof that content and ROI are the only things that matter in 2026. The Kerala Story 2 is benefiting from the brand name, but it isn’t the runaway hit the producers hoped for. In my view, the real winner is the Tamil industry for keeping budgets in check and focus on stories. It is bad news for the mega-budget stars but great news for the producers of rooted, medium-budget cinema.
My Take
Question for you: Do you think Shahid Kapoor should stop doing these “experimental” crime dramas and go back to pure mass entertainers?
