Bhooth Bangla capitalised entirely on this specific market psychology. Backed by Balaji Motion Pictures and Cape of Good Films, the project was mounted on a substantial, yet calculated, budget of Rs 120 crore.
When a movie approaches the Rs 150 crore nett mark domestically—as Bhooth Bangla is currently doing in its fourth week—it creates a highly valuable intellectual property.
Studios immediately look at franchise expansion and windowing opportunities. A spin-off allows producers to leverage the established brand value without necessarily relying on the massive upfront cost of the primary superstar.

The harsh truth is that official confirmation regarding the production of a spin-off, its estimated budget, or its exact earning projections is not available.
Neither Ektaa R Kapoor nor Akshay Kumar has announced a standalone project for any of the supporting cast yet. Prior rumours mistakenly labelled Bhooth Bangla itself as a spin-off or a direct sequel to Bhool Bhulaiyaa, a claim which Priyadarshan completely shut down, calling it an absolute fantasy and stating the new film is entirely based on black magic and mythology.
However, as trade analysts, we must look deeply at the financial blueprint of the original film to understand the economics of a potential spin-off. The math reveals everything you need to know.
The Evidence and Financial Breakdown
To understand what a spin-off might cost, we must accurately decode the payroll and the production numbers of the main Rs 120 crore epic. The producers employed a highly strategic profit-sharing model to keep the upfront costs completely viable.
The Strategic Paychecks and ROI
According to mainstream reports, Akshay Kumar drastically restructured his remuneration for this specific project. Instead of his previous massive fees—reportedly Rs 70 crore for Jolly LLB 3—he took a much lower upfront salary of just Rs 18 crore.
This represents a massive 28.5 per cent pay cut in terms of base cash.
However, he secured a staggering 70 per cent share in the film’s profits as a co-producer, leaving Ektaa Kapoor with the remaining 30 per cent. This backend deal is exactly why the film could afford heavy VFX and elaborate set designs.

By its fourth Friday, the film had collected Rs 144.40 crore nett in India. Trade estimates suggest it will wrap up its domestic theatrical run between Rs 155 crore and Rs 160 crore.
Furthermore, the post-theatrical windowing is locked. Netflix has secured the digital rights, with the premiere expected in late June or early July 2026, perfectly respecting the standard 45 to 60-day theatrical window. If a spin-off were to happen—perhaps focusing on Tabu’s enigmatic character or the haunted palace of Mangalpur itself—the financial structure would look entirely different.
Without an Rs 18 crore upfront fee and a massive 70 per cent profit split for the lead actor, the base production budget could be significantly slashed.
The makers could easily mount a visually heavy spin-off in the Rs 50 crore to Rs 60 crore range. Such a film would inherently command a premium digital acquisition price, greatly reducing the theatrical pressure needed to reach the breakeven point.

If they apply this exact same lean financial logic to a spin-off, focusing on story and controlled budgets rather than bloated salaries, the ROI could be absolutely phenomenal.
Until the official numbers are released, we can only analyze the blueprint, but the blueprint is undeniably solid.
